The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) welcomed more than 130 students for its Term 2, 2026 Orientation on the 12th of August 2026, organised by the Hospitality Management Department.

The orientation introduced students to their academic journey, program requirements, Faculty expectations, and the support available throughout their studies. The program aimed to create a welcoming learning environment and help students feel informed, confident, and prepared for the semester ahead.

The orientation was honoured by Chief Guest Mr. Mohamed Ashraf from Jumeirah Olhahali Island Maldives, who shared his professional journey with the students. Having begun his journey at the School of Hotel and Catering Services in 1999, Mr. Ashraf spoke about his experiences, professional growth, and perseverance, while highlighting the different career pathways available within the tourism and hospitality industry.

His session helped connect education and learning with the world of work, giving students an industry perspective on professional development and future employment opportunities. The session also encouraged students to consider the skills and commitment needed as they prepare for their future careers.

Engagement with professionals from the private sector provides valuable opportunities for knowledge sharing between the Faculty and industry. Through such collaboration, students can gain first-hand insights into the industry and develop a better understanding of professional expectations and career opportunities.

Students found the orientation informative and helpful in understanding their programs, academic requirements, and the opportunities available to them.

By supporting students as they begin a new semester, FHTS continues to promote quality education, student success, and lifelong learning, while strengthening the connection between academic learning, skills development, and future employment.
