The Maldives National University (MNU), in collaboration with the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), co-hosted an event to commemorate Emirati Women’s Day 2026. The celebration provided a platform to recognise women’s achievements and highlight the importance of education, leadership, empowerment, and equal participation in national development.
The event reflected on the progress of Emirati and Maldivian women across educational, professional, and social spheres. It highlighted the importance of creating supportive environments in which women can access quality education, develop their professional capabilities, pursue leadership opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to their communities and national development.
Through shared reflections and dialogue, the celebration encouraged greater appreciation of women’s contributions and the opportunities needed to support their continued advancement. It also emphasised the value of mutual support, inclusive participation, and cooperation in helping women realise their potential across different stages of their personal and professional lives.
The joint initiative strengthened engagement between MNU and the UAE Embassy, providing an opportunity for knowledge exchange and shared learning on women’s empowerment and inclusive development. The collaboration also highlighted the role of educational institutions and diplomatic partnerships in encouraging dialogue on equal opportunities and women’s participation in society.
The celebration reaffirmed the importance of recognising women’s achievements while supporting opportunities for future generations. The initiative contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by highlighting education as an important foundation for women’s development; SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by recognising women’s achievements and the importance of leadership and equal participation; SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by encouraging inclusive opportunities across educational and professional settings; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration between MNU and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates.
