Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) students studying Social Science, accompanied by Senior Lecturer Mohamed Shareef, visited the Gulf Craft boatbuilding site as part of the Faculty of Education’s outreach initiatives promoting learning beyond the classroom.
The visit provided students with valuable insights into traditional and contemporary boatbuilding practices in the Maldives, highlighting their cultural, historical, and economic significance. The experience enabled students to develop a deeper appreciation of Maldivian maritime heritage and the importance of preserving traditional craftsmanship.
The activity also enhanced students’ understanding of local industries and skilled trades, while providing future teachers with practical approaches to integrating local culture, history, heritage, and community resources into Social Science education.
The initiative contributed to SDG 4: Quality Education through experiential learning, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by increasing awareness of local industries and skilled trades, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities through appreciation and preservation of cultural heritage, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between the Faculty of Education and Gulf Craft.
