On 22nd May 2025, Senior Lecturers Fathimath Shakeela, Fathimath Gaushiya, and Maumoona Abdulla, accompanied by four students from the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) programme, participated in an educational field visit to Huruvalhi Maldives Resort as part of the Learning and Teaching of Economics and Learning and Teaching of Business modules.
The field visit provided students with valuable experiential and hands-on learning opportunities, enabling them to connect theoretical concepts with real-world industry practices. Through direct exposure to the tourism and hospitality sector, students gained practical insights into economic development, business operations, sustainable tourism, responsible resource use, and workplace practices.
The experience also demonstrated how field trips and local resources can be effectively incorporated into teaching and learning, enhancing student engagement and connecting academic knowledge with practical experiences. It strengthened students’ understanding of decent work, economic opportunities, responsible business practices, and the contribution of tourism to local economic development.
The visit further highlighted the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and industry, providing future teachers with practical approaches to integrating real-world contexts and industry-based learning into the teaching of Business Studies and Economics.
