The Faculty of Shariah and Law is pleased to announce that our lecturer, Uza. Shara Mohamed Saeed, presented a research paper at the Public Health Conference 2025, held on 8 December 2025 at Villa Nautica, Paradise Island Resort.
Her paper, titled “Legal and Institutional Framework Governing Migrant Workers: Legal Protection and Access Barriers of Migrant Health in the Maldives,” examined how the existing legal and institutional arrangements shape the protection of migrant workers in the country. The paper looked closely at the barriers migrant workers face in accessing health services and drew attention to gaps in the legal framework that affect their ability to receive adequate care.
In addition to her paper presentation, Uza. Shara led a breakout session on “Legal Access Barriers of Migrant Health,” conducted in collaboration with the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The session provided a platform for participants to discuss legal and policy challenges in migrant health and to consider how these might be addressed through stronger legal and institutional responses.
Her contribution highlighted key legal gaps in migrant health and brought a legal perspective to a conference focused on public health. This reflects the Faculty of Shariah and Law’s commitment to academic engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research that is relevant to policy and to the needs of society.
The faculty extends its warm congratulations to Uza. Shara Mohamed Saeed on this valuable academic achievement and thanks her for representing the Faculty and the University with distinction. We look forward to her continued contributions to research and to national discussions on law and public health.
