The Maldives National University (MNU), through its Examination Department in collaboration with the Maldives Medical and Dental Council (MMDC), conducted medical licensing examinations for 543 doctors in 2025. The initiative supports the maintenance of professional medical standards and helps ensure that doctors meet the required competencies to practice medicine safely and effectively in the Maldives.
Medical licensing examinations play a vital role in assessing doctors’ medical knowledge and professional competency against established standards. This process helps safeguard patient welfare, strengthen public confidence in healthcare services and support the delivery of safe, quality medical care. Ensuring that medical practitioners meet the required professional standards is essential to protecting communities and maintaining trust in the healthcare system.
The examinations also highlight the importance of continued learning and professional development in the medical field. As medical knowledge, technologies and treatment practices evolve, maintaining professional competency enables doctors to respond to emerging healthcare needs and provide appropriate care to patients.
Through its partnership with MMDC, MNU reinforces collaboration between educational institutions and national regulatory authorities to uphold medical standards and strengthen professional accountability. This joint effort demonstrates how institutional cooperation and rigorous assessment contribute to developing a qualified medical workforce, improving healthcare quality and supporting the well-being of communities across the Maldives.
