The Maldives National University (MNU), through its Examination Department in collaboration with the Maldives Nursing and Midwifery Council (MNMC), assessed 1,445 nurses in 2025 through nurse competency examinations. The initiative supports the maintenance of professional nursing standards and contributes to strengthening the quality and safety of healthcare services across the Maldives.
The examinations assess the knowledge and skills of registered nurses to ensure they meet the professional competencies required to deliver safe and effective patient care. By evaluating nurses against established national standards, the initiative reinforces professional accountability, strengthens public confidence in healthcare services and supports efforts to improve patient safety and outcomes.
The competency assessments also encourage continuous professional development, recognizing the importance of maintaining and strengthening healthcare professionals’ knowledge and skills throughout their careers. A competent nursing workforce is essential to addressing community health needs and ensuring the delivery of reliable, quality healthcare services.
Through its partnership with MNMC, MNU continues to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and national healthcare authorities. This joint effort highlights the importance of professional assessment, lifelong learning and institutional cooperation in developing a capable healthcare workforce and supporting the well-being of communities across the Maldives.
