The Maldives National University (MNU), through its Examination Department in collaboration with the Centre for Foundational Studies, continued to promote access to higher education through the English Language Competency Testing (ELCT). In 2025, 14 candidates completed the ELCT, helping them address English language proficiency requirements and pursue opportunities for further education.
The initiative supports equitable access to education by providing an assessment pathway for students who require English language competency certification to enter university programmes. By helping learners overcome language-related barriers, the ELCT encourages inclusive participation in higher education and promotes continued learning and personal development.
English language proficiency also plays an important role in preparing individuals for the workplace. The communication skills assessed through the ELCT can help learners engage more effectively in academic and professional environments, strengthening their readiness for future employment and career development.
Through collaboration between the Examination Department and the Centre for Foundational Studies, MNU continues to strengthen educational opportunities and support learners from diverse backgrounds. The initiative demonstrates how institutional collaboration and accessible assessment services can contribute to reducing barriers to education, improving employment prospects and supporting social and economic development.
MNU remains committed to expanding educational opportunities and empowering learners across the Maldives to pursue their academic and professional aspirations.
