Mental Health Ambassador Training
Mental health promotion training was delivered to student nurses in collaboration with the Society for Health Education (SHE) to strengthen mental health literacy, reduce stigma, promote positive coping, and build peer-support skills. Interactive activities encouraged recognition of emotional distress, early help-seeking, and inclusive support. The initiative contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education through mental health education, SDG 5: Gender Equality through gender-sensitive awareness and equitable support, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by addressing stigma and barriers to care. The collaboration with SHE also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
The training strengthened students’ mental health awareness, understanding, and confidence in providing basic peer support and encouraging appropriate help-seeking. Students gained practical skills applicable to their education, clinical placements, workplaces, families, and communities. The sessions promoted open and respectful conversations about mental health, helping to reduce stigma and misconceptions. As future nurses, participants are better prepared to advocate for mental well-being, provide supportive responses, and share accurate information with patients, peers, and communities. The initiative contributes to developing socially responsible healthcare professionals and extends its impact beyond the participants by promoting healthier, more inclusive, informed, and supportive communities.
