16 November 2024

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) at the Maldives National University held a vibrant Open Day at Central Park, bringing marine science directly to the public through interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, and hands-on activities. The event attracted families, students, and ocean enthusiasts eager to learn about the college’s work in marine research, education, and conservation.

CFOS staff and students were on hand to explain their research and demonstrate tools used in surveys, ecological monitoring, and marine biodiversity assessment. The Open Day also served as a platform to inspire prospective students, highlighting the academic programs and career pathways available through CFOS in marine science, fisheries, and environmental management. Faculty members shared insights into required qualifications, practical training opportunities, and the growing demand for skilled professionals in ocean-related fields.

By bringing science out of the laboratory and into a public space, CFOS reinforced its commitment to community engagement and ocean literacy, demonstrating that protecting the Maldives’ marine environment is a shared responsibility that begins with awareness and understanding.
