The Maldives National University > CETE News & Events > EduTech Symposium 2025- TechPath Programme Earns Recognition

Educational Technology and Excellence (CETE) at the Maldives National University (MNU), recognized innovative approaches to technology-enhanced education, with the National Institute of Education (NIE) and its TechPath pilot schools receiving awards for their contributions to educational innovation.
NIE received the Gold Excellence Award in the Institutional Category for its presentation, “TechPath: A Scalable Model for Enhancing Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Through Technology Integration.” The presentation showcased an approach to strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy by integrating technology into teaching and learning.
The achievements also extended to two TechPath pilot schools, which were recognized for their hands-on STEM innovations. Keyodhoo School received the Silver Excellence Award for its project, “Power in Every Step: Harnessing Micro Technology to Generate Electricity from Sandals.” The project showed how micro technology and piezoelectric principles can introduce students to energy generation and applied STEM learning.
Meanwhile, Kondey School received the Bronze Excellence Award for “Empowering Students through Hands-on STEM with Micro,” highlighting the value of practical, technology-based activities in engaging students with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
These achievements highlight the contributions of NIE and its partner schools in exploring innovative approaches to teaching and learning. They also demonstrate how technology integration can extend beyond digital tools to include hands-on experimentation, problem-solving and the development of practical skills.
The recognition of the TechPath programme and its pilot schools reflects the role of the MNU EduTech Symposium as a platform for sharing educational innovations, celebrating good practices and encouraging collaboration among educators and institutions.
Through initiatives such as these, the symposium supports ongoing efforts to advance technology-enhanced education and promote meaningful learning experiences across the Maldivian education sector.
Contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The projects align with the following Sustainable Development Goals:
• SDG 4: Quality Education – Promoting inclusive, equitable and quality education through technology integration, practical STEM activities and innovative teaching approaches.
• SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure – Encouraging technological innovation, experimentation and the development of practical solutions through STEM education.
• SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – Highlighting collaboration among NIE, participating schools and the wider education community to advance technology-enabled learning.
