The Maldives National University Kulhudhuffushi Campus held a diabetes awareness and health screening event on 17th November 2024 to mark World Diabetes Day. Organised through collaboration between library staff and nursing students, the initiative promoted diabetes awareness and healthy lifestyle practices among campus staff and students.
Participants received blood sugar level screenings alongside information on diabetes prevention, healthy eating, physical activity and lifestyle management. The event encouraged regular health monitoring and awareness of risk factors associated with diabetes.
Nursing students played an active role in conducting screenings and providing health education. Their engagement with participants highlighted the importance of daily habits that support long-term health and wellbeing.
The activity also provided nursing students with practical experience in screening, health promotion and communication. Students valued the opportunity to apply their learning while contributing to the health awareness of the campus community.
Attendees welcomed the initiative as a meaningful contribution to campus wellbeing. The event strengthened health literacy and encouraged staff and students to make informed choices about their health.
