The Maldives National University (MNU) has awarded Student Scholarships for Term 2, 2026, supporting students in pursuing higher education while helping to reduce financial barriers to academic progression.
Funded through MNU’s revenue, the scholarship scheme recognises academic achievement and advances the University’s commitment to promoting equitable access to higher education. For Term 2, 2026, 13 new students have been awarded scholarships across undergraduate, postgraduate, and Shaheed Memorial categories.
The scholarships were awarded following a competitive selection process that received strong interest from students across the country. Depending on the scholarship category and eligibility, the awards provide tuition fee support, including full scholarship assistance where applicable.
Beyond providing financial support, MNU’s scholarship programme contributes to broader national efforts to address poverty in its multiple dimensions. Education is recognised as one of the dimensions of deprivation under the Maldives’ Multidimensional Poverty Index, highlighting the importance of access to quality education in improving long-term social and economic outcomes.
By reducing financial barriers to higher education, MNU’s scholarship programme helps create greater opportunities for students to pursue their academic aspirations, develop their potential, and strengthen pathways towards improved livelihoods and economic participation. The initiative also contributes to the advancement of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education and Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG 1): No Poverty.
Through initiatives such as the Student Scholarship Scheme, MNU remains committed to expanding access to higher education and ensuring that financial circumstances do not stand in the way of capable students seeking to further their education.
MNU congratulates all scholarship recipients and wishes them success.
