The Faculty of Arts, Maldives National University, hosted a special talk on Japan’s foreign policy delivered by H.E. Takeuchi Midori, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, for students studying Foreign Policy. The session provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with a senior diplomatic representative and gain first-hand perspectives on contemporary international relations.

The talk connected classroom learning with real-world diplomatic practice, enabling students to deepen their understanding of Japan’s foreign policy and its strategic priorities. Discussions on issues including regional stability and maritime security provided students with practical perspectives on the complexities of international affairs and the role of diplomacy in addressing shared challenges.

By bringing a diplomatic perspective into the university learning environment, the session strengthened students’ knowledge and understanding of international relations, contributing to quality education and supporting the development of globally informed graduates. The discussion also encouraged students to consider the importance of dialogue, cooperation and peaceful approaches in addressing regional and international issues.

The engagement further demonstrated the value of international and bilateral partnerships in supporting knowledge exchange and learning. Through interaction between the Faculty of Arts and the Embassy of Japan, students gained direct exposure to diplomatic perspectives while strengthening their understanding of international cooperation and peaceful relations.
