The Maldives National University (MNU) Library, in collaboration with LexisNexis, conducted an in-person legal research training session for academic staff and students of the Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSL) on 23 September 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The session was held at the MNU computer laboratories, where more than 58 participants were trained.
The training was facilitated by Chua Siow Kun, Southeast Asia Relationship Manager at LexisNexis, and focused on strengthening participants’ practical skills in using the LexisNexis platform for academic and legal research.
Participants were introduced to effective search techniques, content navigation and key platform functionalities, with hands-on practical exercises enabling them to explore the database and apply legal research strategies. The session also provided an opportunity for participants to raise questions and receive guidance directly from the LexisNexis representative.
LexisNexis provides access to a broad range of legal information, including case law, legislation, regulations and authoritative secondary legal sources, supporting students, academics, researchers and legal professionals in locating and analysing legal information.
The training forms part of MNU Library’s ongoing commitment to strengthening information literacy, legal research competencies, and effective use of subscribed academic resources to support teaching, learning and research at the University.
SDG Contribution: The initiative primarily supports SDG 4 – Quality Education by strengthening access to quality academic resources and developing research competencies. It also contributes to SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by strengthening access to legal information and legal research skills, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between MNU and LexisNexis.
