FHS Contributes to Public Dialogue on Mental Health and Non-Communicable Diseases

23 September 2024

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) contributed to public health dialogue through participation in a Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) panel held on 23 September 2025.

Mariyam Ifshan Ahmed participated as a panel member, contributing perspectives on mental health and its relationship with non-communicable diseases. The discussion provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of considering mental health within broader approaches to NCD prevention, management and public health.

The panel also served as a platform for knowledge sharing and professional engagement among health-sector stakeholders, supporting greater awareness of the interconnected nature of physical and mental wellbeing.

FHS’s participation reflects its commitment to contributing professional expertise to public health initiatives and promoting a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Engagement in such platforms also provides opportunities to strengthen collaboration between professionals and sectors working to address major health challenges in the community.

The initiative supported SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting awareness of mental health within the wider NCD agenda and supporting a comprehensive approach to public health and wellbeing.
