8th session of Ilmee Foavahi 2024

The Centre for Maritime Studies at Maldives National University participated in the 8th session of the “Ilmee Foavahi” seminar series held on 28 September 2024. The session focused on “Distance Learning and E-learning in the Maritime Industry” and examined the role of digital education in enhancing maritime education and training (MET).

The seminar presented a structured review of international regulatory frameworks, including the requirements of the International Maritime Organization, alongside current academic research and global industry perspectives. Discussions addressed the applicability of competency-based training through online and blended learning modalities, particularly in the context of maintaining training quality and ensuring effective learning outcomes.

This activity contributes primarily to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by promoting innovative, inclusive, and accessible learning approaches in maritime training. It also supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the advancement of digital education systems, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by fostering collaboration between academia, regulators, and industry stakeholders, including the Maldives Qualifications Authority.
