FHTS Students Support Fahi Sih’hath Community Health Initiative

21 February 2025

Students from the Advanced Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism programme at the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) of The Maldives National University (MNU) volunteered to provide food and beverage services at the Fahisih’hath event, which was organised to raise awareness of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and encourage community action towards prevention and healthier lifestyles.

Through their voluntary involvement, the students applied their hospitality knowledge and service skills in support of a community-focused public health initiative. Their assistance contributed to the effective delivery of food and beverage services at the event while providing an opportunity to engage with an initiative addressing an important health and social issue.

The students’ participation demonstrated how hospitality skills can be applied beyond conventional industry settings to support community engagement and social responsibility. By contributing their time and professional skills, the students gained practical experience in service delivery while supporting a meaningful community cause.

The experience also provided opportunities to strengthen skills in teamwork, communication, service delivery and event support. Such practical experiences complement classroom learning by enabling students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings and develop competencies relevant to their future professional roles.

The Fahisihhath event provided students with an opportunity to contribute to a community initiative while developing their own professional capabilities. Their involvement reflects the broader role of hospitality education in preparing students not only for the world of work, but also for meaningful participation in their communities.

Through community engagement, experiential learning and volunteering opportunities, FHTS continues to encourage students to use their knowledge and skills in ways that contribute positively to society while strengthening their professional and personal development.
