Four students from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) participated in the Young Chef category of the FHAM – Food and Hospitality Asia Maldives Global Culinary Challenge and Exhibition on 24 September 2024, gaining valuable experience in a professional culinary competition.

The competition provided students with an opportunity to apply their academic learning in a professional setting and demonstrate their culinary knowledge, technical skills, creativity, and presentation abilities. The competitive environment also encouraged students to explore innovation and creative approaches to culinary practice while performing according to professional industry standards.

FHTS students achieved excellent results, with Fathimath Rafa Ilyas from the Bachelor of International Hospitality Management programme receiving a Silver Medal. Fathmath Zumya from the Certificate III in Culinary Arts, Moosa Rashwan Naeem from the Advanced Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism, and Ibrahim Farish Ahmed from the Advanced Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism each received Bronze Medals.

The students also received feedback from WACS-certified judges, providing valuable knowledge sharing and opportunities to further develop their culinary techniques and professional performance. The students were supported by FHTS Food and Beverage staff, with Ms. Zulaikha Reesha Rashaad serving as their mentor.

Participation in the Global Culinary Challenge supported quality education, skills development, and students’ preparation for employment by connecting classroom learning with professional industry standards and practices.
