The 2nd Session of the Biomedical Sciences Seminar Series, titled ‘Impacts of Climate Change on Human Health: Immune Dysfunction and Disease, ‘ presented by FHS Associate Lecturer Ms Fathimath Zimna, explored in the light of published scientific research, how the environmental stressors are shifting the human exposome and intensifying due to climate-driven factors such as pollen, air pollution, and heat stress, which activate multiple pathways that ultimately promote proinflammatory status and immune dysregulation through compromised epithelial barriers. The cascade of events set forth contributes to asthma, allergies, and autoimmune diseases. The lecture captured the multidimensional impact of changes induced by climate change, including the derailing effects on individuals and the community level.
The seminar highlighted how climate change intensifies environmental stressors that disrupt immune function, leading to conditions such as asthma, allergies, and autoimmune diseases. By raising awareness of these complex health risks, it encouraged evidence‑based dialogue and underscored the importance of addressing climate‑related challenges for both individual and community well‑being.
