Seventh-semester Bachelor of Pharmacy students completed their first international industrial and clinical pharmacy externship in India through a collaboration between Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MAHE-MCOPS), and the university. During the three-week programme, students gained hands-on experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality control, analytical instrumentation, formulation development, and clinical pharmacy practice. The externship also included industrial exposure at a WHO GMP-certified pharmaceutical company and clinical training at Kasturba Hospital, where students developed competencies in patient counselling, adverse drug reaction reporting, medication management, and interprofessional healthcare practice.
The international industrial and clinical pharmacy externship strengthened students’ professional competencies in line with global standards in pharmaceutical sciences and healthcare delivery. Through hands-on experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality control, clinical pharmacy practice, and patient-centred care, students developed a deeper understanding of the safe and effective use of medicines, contributing to improved healthcare outcomes.
