The Maldives National University (MNU) is proud to announce a significant milestone for medical education in the Maldives. The United Kingdom’s General Medical Council (GMC) has confirmed that the Primary Medical Qualification (PMQ) awarded by the MNU School of Medicine currently meets the criteria for an acceptable overseas qualification.
This recognition marks an important achievement for the University, its students, faculty, clinical partners, and the nation’s healthcare sector. It affirms the quality and standards of medical education delivered by the MNU School of Medicine and reflects the University’s continued commitment to excellence in teaching, learning, and professional training.
As a result of this recognition, eligible graduates of the MNU School of Medicine may apply for the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) examination and GMC registration without their medical qualifications being subject to individual assessment by the GMC. This development creates enhanced opportunities for graduates seeking to pursue medical careers and professional development pathways in the United Kingdom.
The achievement represents the collective efforts of academic staff, clinical educators, affiliated hospitals, healthcare professionals, students, and administrators who have worked tirelessly to strengthen medical education and training in the Maldives. Their dedication and commitment have been instrumental in ensuring that the University’s medical program continues to meet internationally recognized standards.
The University extends its sincere appreciation to its faculty members, clinical doctors, affiliated healthcare institutions, staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders whose contributions have made this accomplishment possible. MNU remains committed to continuously enhancing the quality of its academic programs, expanding opportunities for students, and strengthening its contribution to the development of the nation’s healthcare workforce.
This milestone further reinforces the Maldives National University’s position as a leading institution for higher education and professional training, while advancing its mission to deliver internationally recognized education that contributes to national development and global engagement.
