Sustainability Training for all staff of MNU

12th April 2026

The Maldives National University (MNU) has launched a series of sustainability training sessions as part of its continued commitment to sustainability and institutional excellence. The sessions, held from 8–14 April 2026, engaged academic, administrative, and support staff across the university, equipping them with essential knowledge to integrate sustainability into curriculum, pedagogy, and daily operations. These sessions were in-person for staff in Male’ and online for all the campus staff.

The sessions were conducted by Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed, Ph.D., an external member of the University Council. Dr. Ibrahim is a distinguished academic and sustainability specialist with extensive experience in higher education leadership and research. His facilitation combined global insights with practical, context-specific strategies, ensuring that MNU staff could translate sustainability principles into meaningful action across the university.

Highlighting the importance of this initiative, the Vice Chancellor, Dr Aishath Shehenaz Adam stated:

“These trainings form an essential component of our broader sustainability agenda and are also pertinent to our institutional benchmarking and ranking efforts, so this is an essential training for all staff.”

The VC further emphasized that through these trainings we will be collectively transforming MNU into a university where sustainability is part of our daily practices and behavior.

Building on this momentum, MNU will extend sustainability training to students beginning the week of 19 April 2026. The program will prioritize empowering student leaders, enabling them to champion sustainability initiatives within the university community and beyond.

Through these efforts, staff and students of MNU are laying the foundation for a more responsible, resilient, and future-focused university.
