The Faculty of Arts, Maldives National University (MNU), in collaboration with the Maldives Library Association (MLA) and Reading Room, conducted a two-day training programme titled “Enhancing Library Services and Library Collaborations for 21st-Century Skills” on 29–30 January 2025. The programme was organised at the request of the Baa Atoll Education Centre.

The training focused on strengthening the professional capacity of librarians from island communities by providing practical knowledge and skills in key areas of library technical services, including acquisition, cataloguing, classification, and the use of integrated library systems.

A total of 10 librarians from six islands in Baa Atoll participated in the programme. The training provided participants with essential technical skills to improve the organisation, management, and accessibility of library resources, ultimately contributing to better information and learning services within their communities.

The initiative also supported equitable access to professional development opportunities by bringing specialised training closer to island communities and reducing geographical barriers to capacity building. Through collaboration among MNU, MLA, community organisations, and education stakeholders, the programme demonstrated the value of partnerships in developing a skilled and connected library workforce.

By enhancing the technical competencies of librarians, the training contributes to strengthening local library services, improving access to knowledge, and supporting lifelong learning opportunities across island communities.
