In our efforts to encourage lifelong learning in the community, we provide access to various free educational resources which are made available for everyone in the community in our campuses across the nation.

MNU Library

The Maldives National University’s library network, consisting of eight libraries strategically located across the country, provides free access to a wide range of educational resources for the public. These include books, periodicals, academic databases, and multimedia materials covering diverse fields such as Education, Shari’ah and Law, and many others. The libraries serve as welcoming spaces for learning and research, supporting both the university community and the public in their pursuit of knowledge.

MNU Marathon

The Maldives National University (MNU) Marathon, organized by the MNU, is an exhilarating one-day event. This event aims to promote health, community spirit, and sportsmanship across all age groups through a series of exciting races.

The MNU Marathon is not just a race, but also a movement to promote a culture of healthy living among MNU community and the nation at large. Encouraging physical activity, such as walking and running, is essential for building healthy habits that lead to long-term well-being. For students and staff, balancing academic and work commitments with physical fitness enhances mental clarity, reduces stress, and improves productivity. As future leaders and contributors to society, it is crucial that we lead by example, fostering healthier lifestyles that extend beyond the university and inspire the entire nation to prioritise their health.

Saruna (Digital Repository of MNU)

Saruna is the Digital Repository of The Maldives National University. This digital repository is free to use and easily accessible online. Users will be able to view academic Ebooks, academic articles, thesis and dissertation collection, serials collection, image collection and statistics and datasets making to knowledge convenient and accessible.

Our university canteens are open to students, staff, and the public. Enjoy a variety of delicious meals, quick snacks, and healthy beverages,  all at affordable prices, while relaxing in the vibrant atmosphere of our beautiful campus grounds.

Teaching and Learning Online Short Course

The Teaching and Learning is a short online course open to the public. This course is designed to help participants develop foundational skills for effective instruction in any educational setting. The course introduces key principles of pedagogy, learner engagement, lesson planning, and assessment, while also exploring practical strategies for creating supportive and inclusive learning environments. Through interactive activities and real-world examples, participants gain confidence in designing meaningful learning experiences and enhancing their teaching practice, whether they are new to education or looking to strengthen existing skills.

 

Arabic Crash Course 

MNU regularly conducts an Arabic Crash Course designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of spoken Arabic as a 5-hour short course. The course focuses on developing essential communication skills for simple, everyday interactions. Participants learn basic Arabic greetings, common expressions, and frequently used vocabulary, with an emphasis on correct pronunciation and intonation In 2024, one batch was held on 18th August 2024.

The session provided an introduction to the Arabic script and key cultural aspects of communication, helping learners gain a practical understanding of the language and its social context. More batches of this course will be conducted upon demand

Effective Lesson Design: Active Learning, Technology, and Instructional Models

Short online course tailored for practicing teachers and lecturers at higher educational institutions to enhance their lesson design skills by integrating technology and active learning strategies. Participants will delve into various instructional models, such as the 3E Model, Gagné’s 9 Events of Instruction, Flipped Classroom, and Absorb-Do-Connect. They will also learn about technological tools that can foster active learning activities. The course will enable participants to design and implement lessons, gather feedback from students, and compile their work into a portfolio for assessment.

Effective Use of Multimedia for Universal Design for Learning

This short course introduces educators to the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and how multimedia can enhance inclusive teaching practices. Participants will explore multimedia design principles and multimedia learning theories to create accessible and engaging learning experiences for diverse learners. Through hands-on activities, they will apply these concepts by developing a multimedia resource using a multimedia development tool.

 The MNU Auditoriums are modern, multi-purpose venues designed to host lectures, seminars, conferences, and cultural events. Equipped with advanced audio-visual systems and comfortable seating, the auditoriums provide an ideal environment for learning, presentations, and large-scale gatherings, supporting both academic and community engagement activities.

MNU Book Fair

In an effort to foster literary talent and promote a vibrant reading culture within the Maldives, we are proud to present a series of initiatives aimed at empowering local authors and enriching the community. These initiatives are designed to open a window of opportunity for Dhivehi authors, providing them with the platform they need to showcase and publish their works. By introducing unpublished books and materials, we aim to spark interest in reading and cultivate a culture that embraces literature and knowledge. Furthermore, these efforts will create a supportive environment for local booksellers and authors, encouraging the growth of a thriving literary ecosystem in the Maldives. Through these endeavors, we hope to inspire positive change and nurture a lifelong love of reading among the Maldivian people.

The MNU is paving a platform for talent acquisition teams in various organizations to meet our students, public, job seekers with career opportunities within the country- Maldives.

The main purpose of the job festival is to provide a platform for our students and potential employers to meet and connect talent to fulfill future ready jobs, internships and apprenticeships etc. Our students (and job seekers from the public) could explore the kind of available opportunities with employers and the employers could showcase the enterprises providing students with employment-related information and the latest recruiting trends, etc.

The Redhan Art Exhibition serves as a platform for our students to share their ideas, challenge norms, and inspire the next generation of artists.

Survival Centre

 The MNU Survival Centre provides specialized training in safety, survival, and emergency response for maritime and related fields. Equipped to simulate real-world conditions, the centre trains students in life-saving techniques, sea survival, firefighting, and emergency preparedness, ensuring they meet national and international safety standards.

Maritime Simulator

 The MNU Maritime Simulator gives marine and maritime students access to advanced navigation and ship-handling training in a controlled, realistic virtual environment. With industry-standard simulation technology, students learn navigation, vessel operations, and maritime safety procedures essential for careers in the maritime sector.

Studios

 The MNU Media Studios offer a fully equipped production space for students studying journalism, broadcasting, and digital media. Featuring modern recording, editing, and broadcasting facilities, the studios enable students to create high-quality audio-visual content while developing practical skills in media production and communication.

Moot Court

 The MNU Moot Court provides a realistic courtroom environment where law students can practice advocacy, legal reasoning, and oral argument skills. Through simulated court proceedings, students gain hands-on experience in litigation, case preparation, and judicial processes, strengthening their readiness for professional legal practice.

Publications

MNU  publishes a wide range of materials that reflect its academic, research, and institutional development. These include annual reports, strategic plans, research studies, national project reports, the University Gazette, Dhurumee, and other faculty related newsletters.

 A key highlight is the Maldives National Journal of Research (MNJR), a double-blind refereed, multidisciplinary journal with international editorial representation and regularly published issues. MNU also releases annual research reports through its Research Development Office, showcasing research activities, funded projects, and grants that support faculty and student scholarship. Overall, MNU’s publications demonstrate a strong commitment to research, transparency, and academic engagement both locally and internationally. 

Maldives Security Outlook

Maldives Security Outlook (MSO) aims to publish academic and expert analysis on national, regional and international security issues. Our focus is on the Maldives and its regional engagements on national security, military and defence-related issues, such as but not exclusive to, maritime security, climate security, drug trafficking and terrorism and water and food security.

MSO aims to publish regularly, primarily but not limited to by invitation. The main purpose is to facilitate and advance an academic and policy-smart platform for writers and readers of security and strategic studies, and build discourse on national and regional security issues. Its submissions undergo editorial review through academic expert advice. Hence, MSO publications are useful for policymakers, academics, students and researchers as a preliminary source of reference.
