The Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdullah Mausoom and Vice Chancellor of MNU Dr. Mohamed Shareef kicked off the much anticipated #TourismJubileeWalk at 4pm on 19th November 2022. The walk was organized by MNU-FHTS in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism.
The aim of the event was to bring together tourism academics and industry professionals to celebrate 50 golden years of Maldives tourism! There was an estimated 300+ participants from academia and industry making this the biggest tourism walk in the history of Maldives.
Our students and faculty gained invaluable industry insight through several recent global exposure trips, connecting academic theory with world-class practice. In 2025, a highlight included an insightful visit to JW Marriott Absheron Baku, Azerbaijan, where the General Manager and Executive Team offered a comprehensive tour showcasing their passionate service culture and operations. In 2023, students enjoyed an enlightening sightseeing tour at the Fairmont The Palm Dubai. The 2024 FHTS Exposure Trip to Bangkok, Thailand, featured a presentation and tour at the Asian Institute of Hospitality Management (AIHM) (in association with Les Roches), alongside tours of Minor Group establishments like Anantara Riverside and Avani Bangkok. These experiences provided crucial, real-world exposure for the next generation of hospitality professionals.
As the number one hospitality and tourism education provider in the Maldives, the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) is committed to giving our students the absolute best training. We stand alone as the only academic institution in the country fully equipped with dedicated teaching/training kitchens, restaurants, bedrooms, and other facilities! These spaces are specifically designed to provide students with real life simulations, allowing them to master their practical skills and techniques. This hands on experience perfectly complements the core theory delivered through engaging lectures and workshops, ensuring our graduates are job ready from day one.
