At MNU, we believe that a healthy society is the foundation of sustainable development. Guided by SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, we promote physical, mental, and social wellness across our campuses and communities. Through health education, research, and community outreach, MNU empowers students and citizens to lead healthier lives and build a nation that thrives in well-being.
Smoke free Policy
MNU upholds a strict smoke-free policy in full compliance with the national Tobacco Control Regulation enacted in 2013. Smoking is banned across all university premises and is clearly stated in both the Student and Staff Codes of Conduct, supported by visible no-smoking signage. As a state institution, MNU follows all regulations prohibiting tobacco use in government buildings, entrances, waiting areas, children’s spaces, vessels, ferry terminals, and food establishments. The University remains committed to promoting a healthy, sustainable environment, further reinforced by the national generation-based smoking ban that came into effect on 1 November, making the Maldives the first country to implement such a measure, the University continues to support and promote a smoke-free future for all.
Academic and Pastoral Support Policy
The policy outlines how MNU supports students academically and pastorally through faculty-level staff (like Batch Coordinators) and central Student Support Services. It ensures students receive guidance, timely help, confidentiality, and a safe, supportive learning environment. Responsibilities for staff and students are clearly defined, and the policy is reviewed regularly
Disability Act, Regulation and Policy
This Act is a key social protection tool in the Maldives for supporting persons with disabilities — financially and legally. It demonstrates the government’s commitment to inclusion, by providing not just monetary support, but also coverage for therapy and assistive devices etc.
