Solar Panels at MNU Facilities

Solar panels have been installed at both the Central Administration (CA) buildings in Male’ and Hithadhoo Campus (HC), marking an important step towards sustainable energy use at The Maldives National University. This initiative reflects MNU’s commitment to environmental responsibility by reducing carbon emissions, lowering energy costs, and promoting renewable energy practices within the university community.

Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Hons)

Work to develop new curriculum Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Hons) course was carried out in 2024. The new degree course was launched in 2025. opens up dynamic career opportunities in areas ranging from power systems and renewable energy to computer engineering and telecommunications. This program equips students with specialized knowledge and practical skills to meet national industry demands-especially in supporting green energy initiatives and technological advancement.

White paper on sustainable marine transport

Candela, the world leader in electric hydrofoil technology has published a new white paper. It details a strategic path for the Maldives to protect invaluable marine ecosystems. The plan also aims to enhance the nation’s luxury tourism sector. The white paper is titled “A modern solution for protecting sensitive marine ecosystems with the Candela P-12.” It was developed with the Centre for Maritime Studies at The Maldives National University. In addition, the paper presents the Candela P-12 electric hydrofoil ferry as a comprehensive solution to the environmental and operational challenges facing the island nation. At the same time, the document identifies a critical conflict where the diesel-powered boats essential for tourism are actively harming the fragile ecosystems that are the nation’s greatest asset.
