On 13th September 2025, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohamed Umar conducted a Professional Development (PD) session titled “Teaching Critical Thinking Competency” for teachers of Naivaadhoo School.
The session aimed to strengthen teachers’ capacity to develop students’ critical thinking skills through effective and learner-centred teaching approaches. Participants explored practical strategies for promoting analytical thinking, problem-solving, inquiry-based learning, and active student engagement within the classroom.
The session also highlighted approaches for integrating critical thinking skills across different areas of classroom practice, enabling students to question, analyse information, evaluate ideas, and develop reasoned solutions to problems.
The initiative contributed to quality and skills-based education by strengthening teachers’ professional capacity and promoting teaching approaches that support students’ cognitive development. It also encouraged inclusive classroom practices that recognise diverse learner abilities and provide meaningful opportunities for participation.
The professional development session further demonstrated the importance of collaboration between the Faculty of Education and schools in supporting continuous professional development, knowledge sharing, and the improvement of teaching and learning practices.
