PR Talks: The SPOK Connects Students with Professional Communication Practice

10 June 2026

The Faculty of Arts, Maldives National University, organised “PR Talks: The SPOK”, providing students with an opportunity to engage with contemporary practices in public relations, strategic communication and government communication. The session featured a guest lecture by Government Spokesperson Mr Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), connecting academic learning with professional experience in public communication.

The session explored the role of effective communication in public engagement, transparency and responsible information sharing. Through insights from an experienced communication practitioner, students gained a practical understanding of how communication professionals contribute to informing the public and engaging different audiences.

The dialogue between students, faculty members and the guest speaker also provided an opportunity to strengthen students’ communication skills and awareness of professional practices within the public relations and communication sector. Connecting classroom learning with real-world experience enabled students to better understand the responsibilities and skills required for careers in strategic and public communication.

The session further highlighted the importance of responsible and accessible communication in supporting informed and inclusive communities. By facilitating direct engagement between students and a practising professional, the initiative strengthened links between academic education, professional practice and public institutions.

The initiative aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4: Quality Education, 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
