Ms. Nadhiya Ahmed serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Education at The Maldives National University, where her career reflects a deep and sustained commitment to Mathematics Education and pedagogy. She has previously held key leadership roles within the University, including Dean of Students and Acting Examination Controller, and has represented the Academic Senate at the University Council. Beyond the University, she has contributed to national quality assurance as a member of the External Review Board for the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA), participating in Institutional Audits of Higher Education Institutes in 2017 and 2023.
Ms. Nadhiya has been actively involved in several national research initiatives, including Teaching as a Career: Perception, Value, and Choice in the Maldives; The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Higher Education Sector of the Maldives; Development of a System for Monitoring the Implementation of the National Curriculum; and Research on Philosophical Alignment of Education. She also serves on the steering committee responsible for implementing the National Literacy and Mathematics Strategy, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Education (MoE) and UNICEF.
She is currently involved in two major national projects. The first, Capacity Building of Secondary Mathematics Teachers for Teaching Students with Complex Learning Profiles, is an AEDP initiative carried out in consultation with the Department of Inclusive Education (DoIE) under the Ministry of Education. The second, Lost in Transition, focuses on students’ educational transitions from lower to higher secondary and into higher education, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and UNICEF.
