Ms. Fathimath Shiranee has been appointed as the Head of the Department of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, The Maldives National University since December 5th, 2022. Ms. Fathimath Shiranee graduated from Curtin University, Western Australia in 2004, and she completed her Masters in Biomedical Sciences from Management and Science University, Malaysia in August 2021. Before commencing her Bachelor’s degree, she earned her Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from MNU in 2001.
Having had a passion for the field of Medical Laboratory Science since her school days, Ms. Fathimath Shiranee joined Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in 1998 as a Laboratory Assistant and later worked as a Laboratory Technologist (2001 – 2002) before entering academia. Her work in academia started in January 2005 as an Associate Lecturer at the Faculty of Health Sciences, and she has served MNU to date, currently holding the position of a senior lecturer. She has played a crucial role in pioneering the first Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science course in the country.
Ms. Fathimath Shiranee has a keen interest in the topic of Antimicrobial Resistance and has published a book chapter under the title ‘Multidrug-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus as Colonizer in Healthy Individuals’. She has also contributed to the AMR awareness work carried out by the Ministry of Health.
