Biography

Fathimath Khumaira is a Lecturer at the School of Nursing, Maldives National University, with expertise in public health, mental health, and nursing education. Her work is centred on strengthening health systems and advancing nursing education through evidence-based practice, policy engagement, and innovative teaching approaches.

In her academic role, she is actively involved in developing educational resources for face-to-face and blended learning and contributes to research and academic development initiatives aimed at enhancing student learning and engagement.

Before her academic career, Khumaira held key positions within national health institutions, where she contributed to health policy and program development. At the Health Protection Agency, she was involved in the development of national mental health policies and initiatives aimed at improving service delivery. During her tenure at the Ministry of Health, Maldives, she supported major healthcare initiatives, including telemedicine programs and international health collaborations, addressing challenges in healthcare accessibility across the geographically dispersed islands of the Maldives.

She began her professional career as a Registered Nurse at Gamu Regional Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, gaining clinical experience in emergency and critical care settings, which continues to inform her teaching and research. Her academic and professional interests include community health,mental health, public health policy, nursing education, and the application of digital technologies in healthcare and education.
