Dr. Mohamed Sam-aan Hussain

Associate Lecturer (Medical Officer)

Biography

Dr. Mohamed Sam-aan Hussain is a full-time Associate Lecturer (Medical Officer) at the Faculty of Health Sciences, The Maldives National University. He is a medical doctor and educator with experience in clinical practice, academic teaching, and public health. He holds an MBBS from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Pakistan, and a Master of Public Health from Villa College, Maldives, which he completed with Distinction and Dean’s Award.
 
Before joining MNU full-time, he served as a Part-Time Lecturer at the Faculty of Health Sciences. His earlier professional experience includes work as a Surgical Medical Officer at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Malé, and residency training at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC). He also completed internship training in medicine, surgery, and gynaecology at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi.
 
He has also contributed to research and scholarly work through publications and ongoing projects. His published work includes studies on bariatric surgery outcomes and burn injury management. He is currently involved in research on cardiovascular disease risk factors among Maldivian adults, cancer profiling of breast, thyroid, and head and neck cancers at IGMH, and the National Micronutrient Survey 2026.
