Dr. Barun Ranjan Sarkar is a lecturer in the Department of Medical Sciences at the Faculty of Health Sciences, The Maldives National University.
Dr. Barun holds all educational qualifications in the field of pharmacy, from Diploma in Pharmacy to Doctor of Philosophy. He completed his Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) from Coochbehar Polytechnic, Government of West Bengal, India. Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) from Jadavpur University, Government of West Bengal, Kolkata,India. Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) from Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University, Government of Tamilnadu,Chennai, India. He received his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences) from ISBM University, Chhattisgarh, India.
During his Pharm.D program, he completed his one-year mandatory Clinical Internship at KMCH, an 800-bed NABH accredited Super specialty hospital in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. He later got the opportunity to work abroad and served as a lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy and Assistant Professor at the College of Medicine & Health Sciences, University of Gondar, Ethiopia for more than 5.6 years. He also worked (More than 2 years) as a Project Lead & Trainer at KV Clinical Research Organization, Chhattisgarh, India.
In his academics & practice domain he has he has made significant contributions across various aspects including: publishing in national and international journals such as Springer Nature and several Pubmed indexed publications; playing a pivotal role in establishing Clinical Pharmacy Services at Gondar University Referral Hospital in Ethiopia; precepted (bed side teaching) Clinical Pharmacy students or interns in various specialties including Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology, HIV, Emergency, and OPDs in Ethiopia; delivering guest lectures on diverse clinical specialties at both national and international platforms; and spearheading the launch of a Mobile Pharmaceutical Care Unit aimed at delivering Clinical Pharmacy Services in rural areas of India.
Besides academics he is a “Pharmacotherapy & Drug Information Consultant” and provides various consultations to Physicians and Patients in different aspects of treatment and drug related issues. Overall, his area of focus is to advocate for Rational Prescribing of Drugs and Patient Safety.
