Aminath Shafia

Dean (School of Nursing)

Education

Aminath Shafia is the Dean of the School of Nursing at the Maldives National University with over 24 years of teaching experience. She has contributed extensively to nursing education in the Maldives through teaching, curriculum-related academic work, research supervision, and the development of postgraduate students.

She has been a Registered Nurse Midwife since 2002. Her professional journey at the Maldives National University spans several academic roles, beginning as an Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2002. She later served as Associate Lecturer/Lecturer, and Senior Lecturer before being appointed Dean of the School of Nursing in February 2026.

Aminath Shafia has strong experience in teaching research subjects at the postgraduate level and supervising postgraduate research projects. Her research interests include life long learning, learning environments, nurse educator competence, and public health.

Through her long-standing commitment to nursing education, research, and academic leadership, Aminath Shafia continues to play an important role in strengthening nursing education and advancing the nursing profession in the Maldives.
