Dr. A. Riyaz Jauharee is an accomplished educator, marine scientist, and academic leader with more than three decades of experience in education, fisheries research, and marine resource management in the Maldives. His professional career commenced in 1991 at the Educational Development Centre (EDC) of the Ministry of Education, where he made significant contributions to curriculum and syllabus development, textbook preparation, and teacher training initiatives. One of his major achievements during this period was the development and introduction of Fisheries Science into the national school curriculum, advancing fisheries education across the Maldives.
In 2008, Dr. Jauharee joined the Marine Research Centre under the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, where he conducted research focused on tuna ecology and fisheries, with particular emphasis on livebait fisheries associated with tuna fishing. His work also extended to climate change adaptation and community resilience, collaborating closely with local authorities to strengthen mitigation strategies and develop community-based responses.
Dr. Jauharee has authored and contributed to numerous books, technical reports, and scientific publications in national and international journals. He currently serves as the Dean of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences at the Maldives National University. He holds a PhD in Functional Ecology from the University of Montpellier, France, and a Master of Applied Science in Tropical Marine Ecology and Fisheries Biology from James Cook University, Australia.
