Students from the MSc Psychology (Clinical) 2024 cohort (MPSY2024) conducted an awareness session on sleep and mental wellbeing at Naadhee on 24 October 2024, as part of their assessment for PSY515 – Clinical and Health Psychology.
The session was conducted under the guidance of Mariyam Ifshan Ahmed, Subject Lecturer, and facilitated by Amathulla, Mariyam Shaifa and Niha Ali. The activity provided students with an opportunity to apply psychological knowledge from their coursework in a practical setting while engaging with the community.
The session focused on increasing awareness of the relationship between sleep and mental wellbeing. Students shared information aimed at helping participants understand the importance of healthy sleep and its relevance to psychological and emotional wellbeing.
Integrating community-based activities into academic assessment provides students with opportunities to move beyond theoretical learning and develop practical skills in communicating psychological concepts to different audiences. Through planning and delivering the session, the students gained experience in translating clinical and health psychology knowledge into accessible health education.
The initiative also demonstrated the value of experiential learning in postgraduate psychology education, enabling students to develop professional communication skills while contributing to public awareness of mental wellbeing.
The activity contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through its focus on sleep and mental wellbeing, and SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing students with practical opportunities to apply and communicate psychological knowledge in a community setting.
