The Maldives National University (MNU), through its Examination Department in collaboration with the Centre for Foundational Studies, continues to support access to higher education and professional development through the English Language Competency Testing (ELCT). In 2024, 22 candidates successfully completed the English Language Competency Examination, enabling them to meet the English language requirements for further studies and pursue new academic opportunities.
The ELCT plays an important role in assessing English language proficiency, equipping students and professionals with the communication skills needed to succeed in academic and workplace environments. By providing a standardized assessment, the initiative promotes fair opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds while supporting inclusive access to education, lifelong learning and professional growth.
Proficiency in English also enables learners to engage with international research, access a wider range of educational resources and participate more confidently in an increasingly interconnected world. These skills can strengthen employability, support career advancement and help individuals contribute more effectively to their communities and workplaces.
Through collaboration between the Examination Department and the Centre for Foundational Studies, MNU continues to strengthen its educational support services and create pathways for learners to progress towards their academic and professional goals. The initiative demonstrates how institutional collaboration, accessible assessment opportunities and the development of essential communication skills can work together to promote educational advancement, reduce barriers to opportunity and support sustainable social and economic development.
MNU remains committed to empowering learners across the Maldives by providing opportunities that enable them to develop their capabilities, pursue further education and prepare for the evolving demands of the workforce.
