MNU Thinadhoo Campus celebrated the 53rd Anniversary of The Maldives National University on 1 September 2026 with a series of activities that brought together students and staff in a spirit of teamwork, participation, and celebration.

The anniversary programme began in the morning with a planting activity carried out by staff teams. Staff members planted plants around the campus as part of the day’s celebrations, contributing to a greener campus environment and marking the anniversary in a meaningful and lasting way.

The main celebration was held later in the afternoon at R Avah Turf Ground of Thinadhoo City, where students and staff took part in a lively programme of recreational and sporting activities. The event included a futsal match, dodgeball games, and tug-of-war competitions, creating an enjoyable atmosphere and encouraging teamwork and friendly competition among participants.

In the futsal match, Riptide competed against Zzanjabeela, with Riptide winning the match. The dodgeball games featured Power Puff Girls, Riptide, and Staff Club, and were also won by Riptide. The tug-of-war competition was contested among Riptide, and Zzanjabeela, with Zzanjabeela winning the competition. 

The celebration concluded with cake cutting and evening tea, providing an opportunity for students and staff to come together and commemorate the University’s 53 years of service and contribution to higher education and nation building.

The anniversary celebration reflected the strong sense of community at MNU Thinadhoo Campus and provided an opportunity for students and staff to strengthen relationships, enjoy friendly competition, and celebrate the achievements and continuing journey of The Maldives National University.

The activities also reflected important themes of well-being, quality education, teamwork, environmental responsibility, and institutional unity. Through sports and recreational activities, the event encouraged physical activity, positive social interaction, and student-staff engagement. The planting activity further supported environmental stewardship and helped promote a greener, healthier campus environment for the future.
