Dr. Aminath Shiyama, Quality Assurance Controller at The Maldives National University (MNU), facilitated a Learning Circle on Pedagogical Approaches to Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (ESDGC) in Higher Education at the MNU-EDGE: Learning & Teaching Symposium 2026.
The Learning Circle brought academics together to exchange perspectives, reflect on classroom experiences, and explore practical approaches to integrating sustainability and global citizenship into higher education. Through collaborative discussions, participants had the opportunity to consider how pedagogical approaches can be adapted to different teaching contexts to promote meaningful student learning and engagement with sustainability challenges.
The session contributed to the enhancement of teaching and learning by encouraging reflective practice, peer learning, and the sharing of practical insights among academics. It also highlighted opportunities to strengthen the integration of Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship into teaching, supporting students in developing the knowledge, values, and competencies needed to engage with global challenges and contribute to sustainable development.
The session reflects MNU’s commitment to continuous improvement in teaching and learning, academic collaboration, and quality enhancement. By creating opportunities for academics to share experiences and explore innovative pedagogical approaches, MNU-EDGE supports the development of teaching practices that enrich the student learning experience and advance quality education.
