MNU Launches Vaccination Campaign for Staff and Students to Curb the Spread of Measles and Promote Health and Well-Being

The Maldives National University (MNU) officially launched the Measles Outbreak Response Immunization Program today, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of its university community and supporting national public health efforts to curb the spread of measles.

A special ceremony was held to mark the launch of the programme, with the Minister of State for Health, Mr. Mohamed Rafeeq Hassan, attending as Chief Guest. The event was also attended by MNU Chancellor Dr. Mahmood Shougee, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam, the Director General of Public Health from the Health Protection Agency (HPA), senior university officials, and students.

The programme is being implemented through a collaborative effort between MNU, the Ministry of Health, and the Health Protection Agency (HPA), with the objective of increasing immunization coverage and strengthening preventive measures against the spread of measles within the university community.

Mohamed Rafeeq Hassan highlighted that measles is a highly contagious viral disease that can be effectively prevented through timely vaccination and commended MNU for prioritizing public health and taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.

Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam emphasized MNU’s responsibility in maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for its large university community, comprising over 8,000 students and approximately 700 staff members. She noted that the vaccination initiative represents an important step towards strengthening campus health and reducing the risk of disease transmission.

The initiative further reflects MNU’s commitment to advancing community well-being through improved access to preventive healthcare and the promotion of healthier and safer learning environments. By implementing measures that reduce the risk of infectious diseases and support the welfare of its university community, MNU continues to contribute to broader national efforts aimed at strengthening public health and ensuring uninterrupted access to education.

MNU remains committed to promoting health awareness and fostering a safe educational environment for all members of the university community. The University encourages all eligible students and staff members to participate in the immunization programme and receive their vaccinations as part of the collective effort to protect public health.
