MNU Faculty of Arts Academics Represented at and Recognised with Awards at Theveli International Conference 2024

19-20 August 2024

Academics from the Faculty of Arts, The Maldives National University (MNU), participated in the Theveli International Conference 2024, contributing to research dissemination, scholarly exchange, and the advancement of academic knowledge. The conference provided a platform for Faculty members to present their research to a wider scholarly community and share findings relevant to the Maldivian context.

Faculty members delivered a range of research presentations, demonstrating the Faculty’s engagement in academic inquiry and knowledge development. Their participation provided opportunities to exchange ideas, receive scholarly feedback, and engage with researchers on issues relevant to their respective fields.

A significant highlight of the conference was the recognition of two research papers co-authored by Faculty academics with the Outstanding Paper of the Conference Award. One award-winning paper was co-authored by Aminath Riyaz, Ahmed Hashim, and FG Mohamed, while the second was co-authored by Aminath Zahir and Aminath Riyaz. The awards recognised the quality of the research presented and highlighted the contribution of Faculty academics to scholarly discussions.

Further strengthening the significance of this achievement, both papers were accepted for publication in the forthcoming special issue of the Maldives National Journal of Research (MNJR) 2024. This provides an opportunity to share the research findings through academic publication, extending their reach beyond the conference and supporting the dissemination of knowledge within the research community.

The participation and recognition of Faculty academics at Theveli International Conference 2024 reflect the importance of supporting research, academic collaboration, and scholarly publication within higher education. These achievements also encourage a stronger research culture by recognising academic contributions and creating opportunities for research findings to inform further inquiry and discussion.

The Faculty’s participation contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by supporting academic research, knowledge development, and scholarly learning; SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the production and dissemination of research and the strengthening of research capacity; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by providing opportunities for scholarly exchange and engagement within the research community. The contribution to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) may be supported where evidence demonstrates women’s participation, representation, or recognition in academic research, while SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) would be more directly applicable if the research or conference activities addressed employment, labour, or economic development.
