The Maldives National University (MNU) participated in the 3rd International Conference on Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy 2025, hosted by the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) in Sri Lanka. The MNU delegation was led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Dr. Raheema Abdul Raheem and Dean of Research, Dr. Mariyam Shahuneeza Naseer.

The conference provided an international platform for sharing knowledge, research findings, and innovative approaches to resource efficiency and the circular economy. It brought together stakeholders to explore sustainable practices, discuss challenges, and identify opportunities to improve resource utilisation and reduce waste.

The delegation’s participation was part of the LOWA initiative under the PROMISE project, led by MNU. Through this initiative, the University contributes to advancing discussions and collaborative efforts focused on resource efficiency and sustainable practices.

MNU’s participation reflects its commitment to research, innovation, and international collaboration in addressing environmental and resource management challenges. By engaging in knowledge-sharing platforms such as this conference, the University continues to support the development and exchange of ideas that can contribute to more sustainable practices in the Maldives and beyond.

Resource efficiency and circular economy approaches are closely connected to sustainable consumption and production, environmental protection, and climate action. Through its involvement in the PROMISE project and participation in international knowledge-sharing initiatives, MNU supports research and collaboration aimed at improving resource use, reducing waste, and encouraging sustainable practices. These efforts also highlight the role of higher education institutions and international partnerships in developing knowledge and solutions that contribute to long-term environmental and economic sustainability.
