Master’s students in Political Science and International Affairs organised a cultural seminar for foreign diplomats, providing a platform for knowledge exchange on the Maldives’ culture, traditions, heritage and political development.

The seminar brought together academic learning and international engagement, enabling students to share knowledge about the Maldives with members of the international diplomatic community. Through presentations and discussions, the students provided insights into Maldivian cultural heritage, national identity and political history, creating opportunities for participants to gain a deeper understanding of the country and its development.

The seminar also explored the Maldives’ political development and its journey towards democracy, providing an academic perspective on the evolution of governance and the importance of participatory systems. The exchange encouraged dialogue and mutual understanding between the students and foreign diplomatic representatives.

By creating an opportunity for students to apply their academic knowledge in an international setting, the seminar demonstrated the role of higher education in facilitating knowledge exchange, intercultural understanding and international dialogue. It also enabled students to develop communication and engagement skills relevant to their future roles in international relations and diplomacy.

The activity contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing students with an experiential learning and knowledge-sharing platform that connects academic learning with real-world international engagement. It also supports SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by promoting dialogue, mutual understanding and knowledge about democratic development, governance and participatory institutions, contributing to stronger foundations for peaceful and constructive international relations.
