The Faculty of Arts, The Maldives National University (MNU), received a donation of 35 Marugoto Japanese language textbooks from the Japan Foundation, New Delhi, on 23 August 2026, supporting the continued development of Japanese language education at the University.
The donation ceremony was attended by H.E. Ms. ISHIGAMI Rumiko, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, representatives from the Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Japan, representatives of MNU, and Dr. Kana Shigematsu, Japanese Language Specialist at MNU.
The donated textbooks will be used in Japanese language courses at MNU from the current semester, providing students with additional learning resources to support their development of Japanese language knowledge and communication skills. The resources will contribute to strengthening classroom learning and enhancing access to relevant language-learning materials.
The donation also represents an opportunity for international educational cooperation and knowledge exchange between MNU and Japanese educational partners. By supporting the availability of Japanese language learning resources, the collaboration contributes to the continued development of language education and broader international learning opportunities for MNU students.
The initiative reflects the Faculty of Arts’ commitment to quality education, accessible learning resources, language development, and international academic engagement. The provision of learning materials directly supports students’ educational experience while strengthening collaboration between MNU and international partners.
The donation contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing students with additional educational resources to support Japanese language learning and to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through educational cooperation between MNU, the Japan Foundation, and the Embassy of Japan.
