The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at The Maldives National University (MNU) and Mahidol University in Thailand convened a health promotion workshop on 8 May 2025. The 34 participants included academics, health professionals, policymakers and other stakeholders who explored shared challenges and potential collaborations in the Maldives.
Six groups considered mental health, maternal and child health, environmental and occupational health, communicable and noncommunicable diseases, training needs and school health promotion. They identified workforce and data gaps, limited health literacy and resource constraints, and proposed community interventions, screening, school and workplace initiatives, and research and training partnerships. These were recommendations for future action, rather than completed programmes.
The workshop established areas where academic research and practical health promotion could be developed through continued engagement across sectors and countries.
The exchange supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through health promotion, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through academic and professional learning, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through cooperation between Maldivian stakeholders and Mahidol University in Thailand.
