The Japanese Language Programme for Maldives Immigration staff, delivered by the Faculty of Arts, The Maldives National University (MNU), concluded with a closing ceremony held on 13 August 2026, recognising the successful completion of the programme and the achievements of its participants.
Her Excellency Ishigami Rumiko, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Maldives, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest, alongside representatives from MNU and the programme participants. Her participation highlighted the continued educational and cultural cooperation between the Maldives and Japan.
The programme provided Maldives Immigration staff with opportunities to develop practical Japanese language skills relevant to professional communication. In addition to language learning, participants were introduced to aspects of Japanese culture, supporting broader cultural understanding and communication between people from the two countries.
The completion of the programme recognised the commitment and participation of staff throughout the learning process. By providing structured language education to professionals, the initiative supported continuing professional development, lifelong learning, and the development of communication skills that can be applied in professional settings.
The programme also created opportunities for educational and cultural exchange between the Maldives and Japan. Through language learning and engagement with Japanese culture, participants gained knowledge that can contribute to greater intercultural understanding and professional communication.
The successful completion of the programme demonstrates the Faculty of Arts’ commitment to providing relevant language education and professional learning opportunities while strengthening educational engagement with international partners. The initiative contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) through language learning, lifelong learning, and professional skills development, and to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through educational and cultural cooperation between MNU and Japanese partners.
