International Nurses Day Celebration 2025
The Maldives National University School of Nursing celebrated International Nurses’ Day 2025 by organising a nationwide walk and community health-promotion events across different islands and MNU campuses. The activities honoured nurses and healthcare workers while promoting professional unity, public recognition of nursing, healthy lifestyles, disease prevention, and community well-being. Nursing students provided health education and awareness activities for members of the public, allowing them to apply their knowledge and strengthen their communication, teamwork, leadership, and community-engagement skills. Senior officials, nurses, students, healthcare workers, schools, police, health centres, and community members participated. Thinadhoo Campus collaborated with Dr Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital, while Hithadhoo Campus partnered with Addu Equatorial Hospital and other regional organisations. Funadhoo and Kulhudhuffushi also conducted regional walks with local hospitals. Guided by the message “Our Nurses. Our Future,” the programme demonstrated the nursing profession’s contribution to health promotion and community development.
The nationwide programme increased public awareness of nurses’ essential contribution to healthcare and strengthened professional pride and unity among nurses, educators, and students. The community health events improved access to practical information about healthy lifestyles, disease prevention, and appropriate health-seeking behaviours. They also enabled nursing students to develop their health-education, communication, leadership, teamwork, and community-engagement competencies. Conducting activities across several islands and campuses promoted inclusive regional participation and reduced geographical inequalities. Collaboration with hospitals, schools, police, health centres, and community organisations strengthened partnerships between MNU and key stakeholders and demonstrated the School of Nursing’s commitment to improving community health and well-being.
