Students enrolled in the Forensic Psychology module of the Bachelor of Psychology programme gained practical insights into the Maldivian criminal justice system through two guest lectures delivered by professionals from the Maldives Police Service and Maldives Corrections Service in November 2025.
On 6 November 2025, students participated in a guest lecture by the Maldives Corrections Service focusing on offender rehabilitation programmes in the Maldives. The session provided students with an opportunity to explore approaches to rehabilitation and consider the role of psychological knowledge and practice in supporting individuals involved with the corrections system.
A second guest lecture was delivered by the Maldives Police Service on 11 November 2025, focusing on an overview of investigation methodologies used in the Maldives. The session introduced students to practical aspects of investigative processes and helped them connect concepts from forensic psychology with professional practice within the criminal justice system.
Both sessions were coordinated by Unaisa Saud and attended by 20 Bachelor of Psychology students, with one staff member involved in each session.
Together, the guest lectures provided students with complementary perspectives from the investigation and offender rehabilitation components of the criminal justice system. Direct engagement with practitioners enabled students to connect academic learning with real-world professional contexts and develop a broader understanding of how psychological knowledge can contribute to criminal justice practice.
The sessions also strengthened knowledge exchange and professional collaboration between Maldives National University and key justice-sector institutions, providing valuable opportunities for students to learn from professionals working in the field.
The initiatives contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing practice-informed and experiential learning opportunities, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration and knowledge exchange between MNU, the Maldives Police Service and Maldives Corrections Service.
